月岡芳年の代表作「月百姿」の全作品をフルカラーで紹介

【内容説明】本書は、明治期に最も影響力があった浮世絵師の一人である月岡芳年(1839-1892)の代表作「月百姿」を紹介する。全ての絵が「月」に因んだ百枚の大判揃物は、1885年に製作が開始され、完成したのは芳年の死の前年であった。

本文では、「月百姿」の全作品をほぼ原寸フルカラーで掲載、その対に絵の背景にある歴史・伝説の物語の解説を付す。前段では全ての絵をサムネイル形式で表示した索引、芳年の生涯と作品、「月百姿」シリーズの解説等資料も充実している。

本書は、1992年に米国San Francisco Graphic Society社から出版された同タイトル本の再版である。本文英文。カラー図版165点。
